Its history justifies it, and the 5 former editions of the historic Grand
Prix have shown it, the famous "Circuit in the City" has always
celebrated single-seater cars. The programme of this year thus gratifies
us with three Formula 1 races and cars of Grand prix, but also Junior and
Ford Formulas.

.....
Given
that drivers could often only reach these queen categories by an initiation
driving GT and tourism car, but also that the desire of endurance tests
led more some drivers towards tracks of Le Mans or Daytona, organizers have
wished to allow the access to these categories in 2006. They were very sought-after
during "marathon-contests": among the Sports and prototype cars
involved in this event there were Jaguar C type, Ferrari 250 LM, Lola T70,
Matra 650 (2 races are representing them).
.....
They sometimes arrived by road, what their Gentlemen-drivers enjoy the most!
This time there are Grand Tourism cars, Ferrari 250, Aston Martin DB4, Lotus
Elite or Alfa Romeo Giulia "Tubolare" (according to their period,
they will take part in 2 races).
.....
.....

And finally,
they were bound only to road use but were then pointed towards the track :
Ford Galaxy or Cortina Lotus, BMW 1800, Mini Cooper, and later BMW 3.0 CSI,
Ford Capri or Alfa Romeo Gtam: the historic Grand Prix of Pau will pay them
homage in 2006.
.....
Some figures:
Number of expected car races: 300! Single-seater cars, prototypes, Grand Tourism or tourism.
Number of racers: Almost 400! (Some races competing by 2 pilots). Earlier, more than 20 nations were represented, among which Japan, Argentina and New-Zealand!
Best-time
lap during the race: 1'19"969, or more than 125 km/h on average!
A performance to add to the French racer Flavien Marçais' booklist
on a 1972 Formula 1 BRM P180 with a V12 engine from the 2002 edition.
In comparison to the present categories, the best laps made driving contemporary
Formula 3 situate themselves around 1'13"
